Welcome to Remix Cinema: the collaborative making, deconstruction and distribution of digital artefacts, a workshop exploring the role of audio-visual remix practices in contemporary digital culture.
Organised by the Oxford Internet Institute – OII (University of Oxford) in collaboration with UNIA Prácticas y Culturas Digitales (Universidad Internacional de Andalucía – UNIA) and funded by the Beyond Text programme of the Arts & Humanities Research Council – AHRC, this workshop will take place on 24th and 25th March 2011 in Oxford.

Estão abertas, até o dia 1º de abril, as inscrições para o
Festival Internacional de Filmes Curtíssimos
4ª Ed. no Brasil
Em sua 13ª ed. internacional e a 4ª ed. em Brasília, o Festival Internacional de Filmes Curtíssimos exibe nos dias 6, 7 e 8 de maio de 2011, em 75 cidades de 18 países, uma seleção de aproximadamente 7hs de Filmes Curtíssimos, nos mais diferentes formatos e gêneros. São sínteses de idéias e conceitos de todo o mundo, apresentados em filmes que não ultrapassem 3min de duração.
Os realizadores e diretores podem inscrever seus filmes, gratuitamente, em qualquer plataforma de captação, gênero ou tema, amadores ou profissionais, porém, que não ultrapassem 3 min de duração (fora o título e os créditos), realizados em qualquer parte do Brasil e em qualquer data, podendo os mesmos já terem participado de outros festivais ou mostras, porém, que não tenham sido inscritos nas edições anteriores do Festival de Curtíssimos.
Para participar da curadoria do Festival os candidatos devem preencher a ficha de inscrição disponível no site www.filmescurtissimos.com.br e postar, via Correios, cópia do filme em MINI DV ou DVD, juntamente com ficha de inscrição impressa e assinada para: Espaço Cultural Renato Russo - 508 Sul Bl. A - CEP 70.351-580 (Aos cuidados do Festival Internacional de Filmes Curtíssimos), até o dia 1º de abril de 2011.
Os filmes selecionados concorrerão a cinco premiações: Melhor Filme, Animação, Originalidade, Brasília e Júri Popular.

The 2011 Eaton Science Fiction Conference
The 2011 Eaton Science Fiction Conference, cosponsored by the University of California, Riverside's Libraries and College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, will be held at the Mission Inn Hotel and Spa in Riverside, California, on February 11-12. The topic of the conference is "Global Science Fiction." A flyer and complete program for the event can be found here:

Friday, February 11, will feature a full day of paper sessions. Saturday, February 12, will feature sessions through the early afternoon. All of these will be held in the Mission Inn.
Beginning at 4 PM on Saturday, a plenary session will be held in Culver Center in the nearby UCR Arts Block. The plenary events will include: a keynote address by UCR Professor of Creative Writing Mike Davis; a panel on Global Science Fiction with attending authors China Mieville, Nalo Hopkinson, and Karen Tei Yamashita, and SF scholar Istvan Csicsery-Ronay, Jr.; and an awards ceremony that will feature the announcements of this year's winner of the Student Science Fiction Short Story Contest, the R.D. Mullen Reseach Fellowships supporting work in the Eaton archive, and the presentation of the Eaton Lifetime Achievement Award to Samuel R. Delany (in absentia) and to Harlan Ellison (who will be in attendance). A reception follows the plenary session.
Full registration for the conference is $165. Single-day registrations are available for $75. We have also arranged a special rate for University of California students of $25 on Friday and $20 on Saturday. The latter does not include attendance at the plenary session. Some tickets are available for the plenary session at a cost of $50. For more information about registration, please contact Sarah Allison at.
The Eaton Conference will be preceded by the third annual Science Fiction Studies Symposium, which will also be held at the Mission Inn on Thursday, February 10, from 2:30 until 5 PM. The Symposium is free and open to the public. A flyer with information about that event can be found at:
